At the start of the third section of the Bonifatius Kloosterpad Monastery Route you cross the Wâldwei road near the village of Garyp. You pass the little village of Sigerswâld where five nuns who fled from the province of North Holland founded Sinaï monastery. They lived simply and humbly. Their mission was to help the poor and the sick. Sadly, when the Spanish invaded the monastery was burned down as a precaution. Today the history of the area lives on in the names of local roads and waterways, such as 'Nonnepaed' (Nun Lane) and 'Zustervaart' (Sister Canal).

You continue on to the village of Oudega in Smallingerland with its impressive St Agathakerk church built in the 12th century. From here, the route leads through the Jan Durkspolder wetland reserve that is part of De Alde Feanen National Park and, after a short ferry crossing, ends at the village of De Veenhoop.

Sint-Agathakerk Oudega

De Sint-Agathakerk in Oudega Smallingerland is al in de 12e eeuw gebouwd en is daarmee één van de oudste kerken van Friesland. Er zijn bijzondere kenmerken te zien.

Oudega Courthouse

In the 17th century this was the residence of the presiding official or ‘grietman’ of the local administrative district of Smallingerland. All administrative decisions were issued from the courthouse at Oudega, which was rebuilt in 1738 after a fire.

Jan Durkspolder

Jan Durkspolder is a wetland reserve that is part of De Alde Feanen National Park. The area is a haven for many species of foraging and migrating birds.

Vanaf 31 over Mounehoek langs bakkerij Van der Zee dorp uit. 13 - 51 - 57

Streekpad volgen door Sigerswâld, tunnel onder weg door op T linksaf naar Oudega over Sigerswâld, voorbij bocht naar rechts en bij Zustervaart rechtsaf boerenpad door de weilanden langs boomstrook naar 81 - 49    48 - 44 - 83 - 93 - 95 - 20 - 26

Pak de veerpont naar knooppunt 23 - 66. LET OP: veerpont vaart in de wintermaanden niet!
